This paper is made by Cao family of Xuacheng, whose ancestor was one of the earliest rice paper makers. Handed down from generation to generation, the craft of papermaking has always been kept secret within the family. The paper was a tribute to imperial court in the 7th century, and one of the most reputable art paper in feudal times. Some people in Japan and other countries tried to imitate, but have never succeeded to turning out anything like it.
